SALT LAKE CITY - Head coach Tony LeBlanc has announced that three student-athletes have signed an NAIA letter of intent to join the Westminster women's soccer team for the 2009 season. Megan Maldonado, Jennifer Prescott, and Nicole Taylor have all signed to join the Griffins in the fall for the third season of women's soccer at Westminster.
Maldonado will join the squad from Draper, Utah, where she prepped at Juan Diego Catholic High School. During her senior season the team went 14-4 overall and won the Region Eight championship with a perfect 8-0 record. They finished third in the state tournament.
Prescott is from Cambridge, Vermont, and played high school soccer at Lamoille Union High School. Prescott started 66 games during her career, scoring seven goals and dishing out 10 assists. She was a Division II All-State selection in both her junior and senior seasons. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and was named Academic All-State as a senior.
Taylor comes to Westminster from Salt Lake City, Utah. She prepped at Waterford and spent the 2007 season with Penn State University, appearing in one game. During her senior season at Waterford, Taylor was named the 2A/1A Most Valuable Player after scoring 30 goals and recording 26 assists.
Westminster will begin the 2009 season against Utah Valley on Wednesday, August 12, in Orem. That game is followed by a trip to Hawaii for three games before the home opener on Sunday, September 6 against Kansas Wesleyan. The Griffins are coming off a 7-11-1 season in 2008, just the second season of competition.
