DILLON, Mont., Feb. 6, 2010 - Four players scored in double figures as
the Rocky Mountain College Bears scored a 78-76 come-from behind
victory over the University of Montana Western Bulldogs in a women's
Frontier Conference basketball game.
The two teams traded baskets and leads over the first nine and a half minutes of the first half. A MyKayla Tatsey free throw at the 10:36 mark broke a 17-17 tie and began a 14-6 run leading to a 31-23 Bulldog lead with 6:38 left in the half.
Neither team could score on the next five possessions. Rocky then scored on two straight possessions to cut the Bulldog lead to four, 31-27 with 4:36 remaining. Montana Western answered with five unanswered points to build the lead back to nine and led at the half 40-32.
Rocky opened the second half with a 8-0 run to tie the game at 40 after the first three minutes. Stephanie Dana broke the Bulldog scoring drought with a basket and a 42-40 lead.
Rocky's Tana Stewart tied the game at 42 and Adrienne Green scored two possessions later for a 44-42 lead. Rocky took advantage of cold Bulldog shooting and turnovers to build a nine point lead 59-50 with nine minutes remaining.
The Bulldogs then outscored Rocky 11-2 and tied the game at 61. Dana scored on the next Bulldog possession to give UMW a 63-61 lead.
Rocky took advantage of Bulldog turnovers to build their lead to six. The Bulldogs battled back on strength of Nicole Tams scoring seven points in the game's final two minutes.
With nine seconds left and trailing by two, the Bulldogs called a time-out to set the final play. A Kristin Luedtke jumped shot hit the rim as the clock ran out.
The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Tams with 22 points and Dana with 15. Luedtke led the team in rebounds with nine followed by Chloe Mosey with eight. The Bulldogs committed 24 turnovers which Rocky turned into 34 points. Montana Western outrebounded the Bears 44-25,
Green led the Bears in scoring with 16 points followed by Shannon Hildreth with 14 and Jennifer Orchard and Breanna Todd with 10 each. Stewart led the team in rebounds with seven.
