Great Falls, MT - The Lewis-Clark State Warriors improved to 22-3 (8-1 in conference) on the season by defeating the University of Great Falls Lady Argonauts for the third time this season, this time by a 75-41 final. The Warriors, ranked #11 in the current NAIA national poll, were 78-50 winners in both teams' Frontier Conference opener back on January 7 in Lewiston, ID while also taking a non-conference match-up with UGF, 76-54, also in Lewiston on December 11. With the loss, the Lady Argos drop to 3-18, 0-9.
"Well this was just a tough weekend for us," said UGF head coach Shawn Chaffin, referring to the task of facing both LC State and #14 Westminster. "They are awfully good and we just did not match-up well with them at all. That's a team that will probably go on to make some noise in the national tournament."
The Warriors were able to build a 36-17 halftime lead by holding the Lady Argos to abysmal field goal shooting (5-for-28, 18%). Conversely, the visitors connected on 43% (13-for-30) of their first half field goal attempts and controlled the backboard to the tune of 25-15.
Senior guard Nikki DePeel (Richland, WA) paced the highly touted Warriors with a game-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. The team's leading scorer Jasmine Stohr (Yakima, WA) added 13 points on the night to go with four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Montana native Alyssa Fierro (Bigfork, MT) was dominant on the glass, grabbing a game-high 11 boards.
Kassie Holmlund (Great Falls, MT) was the lone Lady Argo to reach double figures with 12 points. Marissa Skogen (Great Falls, MT) chipped in with eight points and four steals while senior center Stasia Holden (Arleta, CA) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
The Lady Argos are back in action next Friday night at the McLaughlin Center as they host rival MSU-Northern at 6pm.
