Helena, Mont. --Carroll College women's
soccer coach David Thorvilson is happy to announce that Haley Jensen and Macie
Netz have both signed an NAIA/Frontier Conference Letter of Intent to play
soccer for the Saints next fall.
Jensen,
a local standout, has been a three-year varsity player and was selected as a
co-captain on this year's Helena High team. She was the second leading scorer for Helena High this last
fall and can play many different positions on the field; she primarily likes
the attacking 3rd of the field, but can also play an outside back
position if needed. In addition to
high school ball, Jensen has been playing soccer for the Helena Arsenal soccer
program since her U-11 days. A
well-rounded student athlete, she is also a three-year participant in Track and
Field at Helena High, a National Honors Society member, and an Honor Roll
student as well as a participant in Health Occupations for Students of
America. Jensen plans to major in
Pre-Physical Therapy at Carroll College.
"I
am very happy that Haley has decided to stay home and become a member of our
soccer progam. I coached Haley's
club team a few years ago and saw her potential to be a collegiate soccer
player. Her ability to play many
different positions and her strong work ethic should allow her to transition to
the college game and fight for minutes next fall," said Coach Thorvilson.
Macie
Netz, a Great Falls native and CMR standout, is coming off a very successful
senior year helping lead her team to a 3rd place finish at this
year's state tournament. Selected
as the Offensive Player of the Year, Netz was the second leading scorer in the
state. She has been a four-year
varsity starter and was selected to All-State and Super State her sophomore and
seniors years as well as garnishing All-Conference honors from her sophomore
year on. Netz has also spent the
past eight years playing club soccer for the Great Falls Thunderbolts and her
Montana Select Team has played all over the west coast. Besides being a standout soccer player,
Netz is a National Honor Society member, Girls State Delegate, Student
Government representative as well as the homecoming queen this last fall.
"I
first identified Macie as a special player a few years ago when she attended
the Carroll College Soccer Camp and I have had my eye on her for quite some
time," said Coach Thorvilson. "Macie can play forward or move into the midfield
and create opportunities with her vision of the field. I anticipate she will battle for
playing time from day one and we are excited she has chosen Carroll College."
The
Saints graduate 5 seniors off of last year's squad that went 15-5-1 and won
their third straight Frontier Conference season title. They hosted and won the
Frontier Conference/DAC Tournament and finished off the season by advancing to
the semifinal round of the unaffiliated tournament. Coach Thorvilson
looks to have a few more additions to this signing class within the next few
weeks.
The
Saints will open up the 2010 season with an exhibition game against Division I
opponent University of Montana, slated for August 14th.
