The Carroll College women's soccer team announced the addition
of two more recruits to its 2010 class on Tuesday.
McKinley Dennis of Eugene, Ore., and Paige Williams from Lakewood,
Colo., have signed their NAIA/Frontier Conference Letter of Intent
paperwork to play for the Saints next fall.
McKinley "Macky" Dennis has been a four-year varsity player for
Marist High School in Oregon where she was the team leader in
assists and second in goals (18) her senior year. She was a Sky Em
All-District player her sophomore and junior years and garnished
first team Sky Em honors this last fall.
Marist High School took second place at state in 2006 and 2007 and
was the Sky Em League Champion from 2006-2008.
Dennis also played club ball for the Eugene Metro Futbol Club from
2004-2006, with the FC Willamette team since 2007, and is a member
of the Oregon Girls' 92's ODP team. In addition to soccer, Dennis
played varsity basketball for Marist High School since her freshman
year. She was an honor roll student all four years of high school,
maintaining at least a 3.5 GPA, and plans to study nursing at
Carroll College.
"We are excited to have Macky join the Saints
soccer family next year. She came on a campus visit this last fall
and trained with the team and she just has a knack for finding the
back of the net. With the loss of Hannah Young in our forward group
we are hoping players like McKinley can help fill her void," said
Saints soccer head coach Dave Thorvilson.
Paige Williams, a four-sport varsity standout at Green Mountain
High School has lettered in track, cross country, skiing and
soccer. During her junior year, Williams scored six goals in 10
games before breaking her leg. She has been playing club soccer for
the Colorado Rush Swoosh team since 2003. The Rush have made the
Colorado State Cup every year since 2005. She was also an All-State
Skimeister (Nordic and Alpine combined) her sophomore and junior
years.
Academically, Williams has been a member of the Gold Honor Roll,
the National Honor Society, and was named the "Top of the Mountain
Freshman" (top overall academic award). She maintained a 4.12 GPA
and plans to pursue a degree in biology while at Carroll
College.
"I am very pleased to bring in an athlete of Paige's caliber to
Carroll College," Thorvilson said. "She could play many different
roles for our team but could be well-suited to an outside back
position as well. She is very similar to Abby Hoover and can run out
of the back."
The Saints will be returning 20 players from last year's squad,
which posted a 15-5-1 record and won their third straight Frontier
Conference championship. They will look to wrap up recruiting for
the 2010 class in the next few weeks.
