Montana Tech Oredigger football has signed three more student-athletes to NAIA/Frontier Conference letters-of-intent to join the team this fall. They are Denver Otteson of Tonopah, NV; Ryan Flores of Spokane, WA; and Taylor Long of Townsend.
Otteson, a highly-decorated athlete from Tonopah High School in Nevada, signs with Tech after a stellar high school football career. He garnered 1st team All-Conference and All-State honors on offense, defense, and special teams in 2008 and 2009. In his senior season, the 5'10" 170-lb Otteson totaled over 2500 yards of total offense, made over 150 total tackles on defense, and had a 41-yd punting average. He was also an exceptional kicker, going 7-11 on field goal attempts (47-yd long) and 64-69 in PAT's in his career. 76% of his kickoffs went for touchbacks. Otteson participated in two high school All-American games (Myrtle Beach, SC and Austin, TX), and was named player of the week in Nevada four times during his senior season. One recruiting service rated him as the #7 overall prospect in Nevada and the #29 overall kicker in the country. Oredigger head coach Bob Green said of Otteson, "Originally we recruited Denver strictly as a kicker. However, he has the speed and quickness to contribute as a running back or receiver. He is truly an all-around football player, and far and away the best high school kicker our staff has seen in a few years."
Flores, a 5-10 180-lb athlete from Shadle Park High School in Spokane, has been a major contributor on both sides of the ball for three seasons. He has played running back, wide receiver, cornerback, and safety for his high school team. Ryan's athletic ability kept him on the field for the entire game. Flores garnered All-Conference honors as a defensive back following his senior season. "I like the way Ryan Flores covers," commented Green. His athletic ability and speed combine with outstanding instincts to enable him to make plays. Ryan is a smart player who is consistently in the right place at the right time." Ryan plans to major in general engineering at Tech.
Broadwater High School's Taylor Long started at quarterback for three seasons and was a four-year varsity letterman. Long received All-Conference recognition as a quarterback and as a kicker in 2009, while leading his team to their first-ever state semi-finals in Class B. The 6' 175-lb Long is the school record holder in career passing yards, and will participate in the Class B All-Star game in June. Taylor's arm strength has also contributed to his success as a baseball player. "Taylor Long showed himself to be an outstanding, complete quarterback throughout his career," says Green. "He possesses a strong and accurate arm, and he runs well." Long will study engineering or business management at Montana Tech.
