Alex Courtney of Wolf Point, Mont. has signed a Frontier Conference letter of intent to play for the Montana Tech volleyball team for fall of 2010, announced head coach Marilyn Tobin.
Courtney, a 6-foot-two middle hitter, has been a stand out in volleyball at Wolf Point High School for the past 4 years. She was awarded team MVP for the last 2 seasons and was selected All-State and All-Conference first team the past three years. This past season she was selected to the Class B State Volleyball Tournament Team as well. She also has been a letter winner in basketball, track and tennis.
Courtney not only excels on the court, but in the classroom as well. She has been on the honor roll for four years, and was selected to the Academic All-State Team for the past four years. She is undecided which academic degree she will pursue, but is leaning towards Health Care Informatics. She has been comfortable with Montana Tech and its volleyball program since her first visit on campus."I chose Tech because I felt that it offered everything that I was looking for academically, and the location allows me to stay close to my family," Courtney said. "I'm also excited to be a member of the Digger volleyball team."
Coach Marilyn Tobin is elated to have signed a player with the potential to be a key factor in the Digger's future offense and defense at the net.
"I am very excited to have signed Alex," Tobin said. "She is one of the top middles out of Montana this year. She is a great natural athlete and once she learns the college game, will be a huge force on our team. She has a powerful and quick arm swing which will enable her to be an offensive terminator at our level, and with her height she is a tremendous blocker."
