GREAT FALLS, Mont. - University of Great Falls basketball coach Bill Himmelberg has announced the signing of Kezia Ford, a 5-foot-8 guard, to a NAIA/Frontier Conference Letter of Intent today. Ford, a native of Augusta, Mont. and a 2008 graduate of Great Falls High School, returns to her Montana roots after two seasons at Southern Virginia University (SVU), a NAIA-affiliated school located in Buena Vista, VA.
"I am really excited that Kezia has chosen to come back home and play for us at UGF," Himmelberg said. "She will bring added experience for us at the guard position and she really knows how to score and rebound. Kezia is a perfect fit for our university. She will be a great presence in our locker room as well as around campus."
As a freshman, Ford led SVU to a 16-10 record, averaging 10.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. She saw action in 25 games and made 22 starts that year, shooting an impressive 55% from the field. This past season, Ford averaged 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
"I chose UGF for several reasons," Ford said. "The university appeared very appealing when I visited the biology department. I saw their lab and how involved the professors were with the students. I also met President McAllister and he encouraged me to be very involved on campus which I plan to be. I am very excited to be playing basketball in Montana again and at the UGF campus as a Lady Argo. My family is also happy to have me back close to home where they can follow our team easily. I've heard so many positive things about coach Himmelberg and I am looking forward to the next two years under his guidance."
Ford joins an already impressive recruiting class for the upcoming 2010-2011 season.
