WHITEFISH, Mont., Aug. 31, 2010 - Players from Montana State-Northern,
Montana Tech and Rocky Mountain College were named Frontier Conference
Football Players of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week:
Mark Desin, Rocky Mountain College, 5-foot-11, 195 lbs, senior, quarterback from
Billings, Mont. In Rocky's 21-25 loss to No. 15 Dickinson State, Desin
passed for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He was 23 of 38 passing. He
also rushed for 57 yards and one touchdown. Other players nominated:
Derek Lear of MSU-Northern, Kevin Sampson of Eastern Oregon and Drew
Savage of Montana Tech.
Defensive Player of the Week: Casey Varner, Montana State-Northern, 5-foot-10, 195 lbs, senior, defensive back, from Baker, Mont. In MSU-Northern's 20-3 win over Montana Western, Roberts recorded four solo tackles, three assisted tackles, three interceptions and three pass deflections. Varner tied a school record for interceptions in one game. Also nominated, JT Fitzgerald of Rocky Mountain College, Dallas Smith of Eastern Oregon and Jake Stagnoli of Montana Tech.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Ty Sandru, Montana Tech, 5-foot-11, 178 lbs, senior, outside linebacker from Twin Bridges, Mont. In Tech's 13-6 loss to South Dakota School of Mines, Sandru recorded two solo tackles and blocked a punt. Also nominated, Derek Carothers of Rocky Mountain, Kyle Kercher of MSU-Northern and Nick Knell of Eastern Oregon.
