Great Falls, MONT - The University of Great Falls wrestling team completed the home portion of their 2011-2012 wrestling season with a 27-9 victory over Northwest College of Powell, Wyo.

The Argos, the third ranked team in the NAIA, lost to at Northwest on January 13.

"Tonight was the senior's night to shine." head coach Caleb Scheaffer said.

The Argos honored six seniors in a pre-match ceremony. Seniors were accompanied by parents, siblings or close friends as they received a commemorative frame with photos of each senior in action during their career as an Argonaut.

In the first match, at 131 lbs, Argo senior Luis Carranza, from Idaho Falls, Idaho fell to Justin Gardner in a 3-0 decision. At 141 lbs, Spokane, Wash. senior and current number one wrestler in the NAIA, Anthony Varnell, beat Colton Thornton by a decision which tied the team score. The evening was highlighted by Norwalk, Calif. senior Juan Enriquez pinning Sean Sullivan.

"I am proud of the seniors. They wrestled well and this meet was a good way to honor them. They stepped up to the challenge and wrestled well." Scheaffer said.

The Argos finished their home schedule with a 5-1 record losing to, then number 1 ranked, Southern Oregon by a single point in a terrific 19-18 dual.

The Argos hit the road for three matches. On Thursday they are at Western Wyoming, Friday, at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Ariz. and on Saturday at Grand Canyon University for their fourth dual in five days.

"This is going to be a very busy weekend. We now have our eyes on the first three days in March and are working to be our best at the National Tournament." Scheaffer concluded.
