Helena-MT. Carroll College Head women’s soccer coach David Thorvilson recently announced two more student-athletes have signed to join 2008 recruiting class. Anna Curtin (Boise, ID) and Sophie Johnson (Spokane, WA) have signed national letters of intent to play soccer for the Fighting Saints, who finished the 2007 season with a record of 17-2-2 and won the inaugural frontier conference title on their way to winning the Region I title and advancing to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament.

Curtin hails from Boise Idaho and was named the 4A All Idaho player of the year. Curtin was voted team captain and team MVP during her senior year as she helped lead Bishop Kelly High School to a state championship win. Bishop Kelly HS went undefended in conference play as was awarded the All State Distinguished Team Scholastic Award along the way. Anna was also awarded the Outstanding Individual Scholastic Award for maintaining a 3.86 GPA while participating in a school sponsored sport. Curtin is a very versatile player that has played both as a forward and a defender for her high school team and a forward for the Boise Blast Soccer Club. As a defender, she scored 10 goals and 4 assists during her senior year and as a junior scored 23 goals and 17 assists as a forward. Anna plans to major in Biology/Pre Med at Carroll. “Anna is tall, fast, and very athletic. She will battle for playing time at any position on the field and will have an immediate impact on our program,” stated Coach Thorvilson.

Johnson, a member of the Spokane shadow soccer club and Gonzaga Prep High School, is a versatile player who will add depth at both midfield and forward positions. The Spokane Shadow has been the Washington State Cup Champions the last two years and along the way won regionals. The team also competed in the US Club Soccer National Cup and was a Finals participant in Orlando, FL in 2005. While at Gonzaga Prep Sophie has been a four year starter and has raked up two Greater Spokane League titles, Districts twice, and regional’s one on their way to 3^rd place finish in the state. Sophie was the team captain this year and was a member of all GSL team as a midfielder. Sophie plans to major in Education and Psychology at Carroll. “Johnson comes from a strong tradition of winning and we expect she will bring that drive with her to Carroll. Her ability to play different positions will allow her to challenge for game time as a freshman,” said Coach Thorvilson.

The Saints plan to finish up their recruiting by April and will expect to sign a couple more to the 2008 team.
