Top-seeded Lewis-Clark State, edged Montana-State Northern 65-63 for the men's tournament title Saturday night in Butte, Mont.
The Warriors' JR Gordan made two free throws with nine seconds remaining to clinch the victory for Lewis-Clark.
Northern came roaring back in the second, erasing a Warrior double digit lead on the strength of a 13-0 run.
The Lights stretched their lead to four point lead with 8:46 remaining
Lewis-Clark and Northern then battled in championship fashion, exchanging baskets and leads.
Gordon the Warriors and led all scorers with 21 points followed by Mike Gordy with 17. Drew Pettersen led Northern with 20.
The title is L-C's fourth championship in the last five years and gives them the league's automatic berth to the national tournament.
Because Northern was unranked in the final regular season poll, it is unlikely they would receive an at-large bid. Carroll College, which ended the season ranked 23 is the most likely candidate for an at-large bid.
