University of Montana Western football coach Rich Ferris announced the
signing of five student-athletes to Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of
intent.
Michael ‘Mac’ Cuffe is a 5’11, 170 lb wide receiver/defensive back from Missoula, Mont. Cuffe will graduate this spring from Loyola Sacred Heart High School.
He was a three-time first team all-conference selection. Cuffle earned all-state honors after his senior season and was selected to play in the East-West Shrine All-Star game in July.
“Mac is a great all-around athlete from Missoula,” said Ferris. “The nice thing about Mac is that he can play either side of the ball. We are excited as a staff to watch him develop in our system.”
Cuffe also competed in basketball, wrestling and played American Legion baseball for four seasons. This past season in basketball he earned all-tournament honors at the Class B State tournament.
He is the son of Matt and Christi Cuffe and will major in elementary education.
James Hane is a 6’0”, 245 lb offensive lineman from Drummond, Mont. He will graduate this spring from Drummond High School.
He earned all-state and all-conference honors and was selected his team’s most valuable lineman. Hane played on three Class C state championship teams.
“James knows what it takes to win,” said offensive line coach Mike Schmidt. “He is a solid lifter and has great work ethic. He could play multiple positions at Montana Western.
Hane maintained a 3.8 GPA and received academic all-state honors. He is the son of Kent and Laurie Hane and will major in health and human performance.
Erik Grimsrud is a 6’0”, 205 lb linebacker from Missoula, Mont. He will graduate this spring from Sentinel High School.
In his senior season he recorded 109 tackles, for his career, he recorded 194 tackles, six quarterback sacks and one interception. Grimsrud earned all-conference and all-state honors and was selected team captain.
“Erik is a great addition to our defense,” said Ferris. “We were impressed this summer watching him at the AA camp in Billings. He is well coached and excited about becoming a Bulldog.”
In addition to football, he also participates in track. Grimsrud will major in business. He is the son of Kayce and Steve Grimsrud.
Alex Morigeau is a 6’2”, 326 lb offensive lineman from St. Ignatius, Mont. He will graduate this spring from St. Ignatius High School.
On defense, Morigeau recorded 30.5 tackles andn four quarterback sacks his senior season and for his career, 82.5 tackles and 11 quarterback sacks. He earned all-conference honors as an offensive lineman and was selected to play the Class B All-Star game.
“Alex is a big, athletic kid,” said Ferris. “As a staff, we worked with him at a summer camp in Missoula. He is a great ‘attitude’ player with a lot of energy.
Morigeau maintained a 3.6 GPA and earned academic all-state honors for four years. He will major in pre-professional fish and wildlife. Morigeau is the son of Jackie Spidel andn Charlie Morigeau.
David Sandau is a 6’1”, 250 lb offensive lineman/defensive tackle from Missoula, Mont. He will graduate this spring from Sentinel High School.
Sandau earned all-conference and all-state honors in football. He also participates in wrestling and track.
“David was a three-year starter for Sentinel,” said Ferris. “He has experience and shows a strong desire to play at the collegiate level. David has the talent to play either side of the ball.”
Sandau is the son of Caroline and Dave and plans to major in elementary education.
