Six Hawaii student-athletes have signed Frontier Conference/NAIA
letters of intent to play football at the University of Montana
Western, according to head coach Rich Ferris.
Douglas Delos-Santos is a 6-1,280 lb nose guard from Wahiawa, Hawaii. He will graduate from Leilehua High School this spring. Delos-Santos had 143 career tackles and five interceptions. He earned All-State Honorable mention, played in the 2007 West Division All-Star team, and served as his team's team captain. Douglas's team won a state title in 2007.
"Douglas bring a winners attitude to UMW. He was a valuable member of the 2007 State Champion team, Leilehua High School. As the first 2008 commitment from Hawaii, he turned down opportunities to play at the University of Hawaii and New Mexico State University," said coach Ferris.
Delos-Santos is the son of Kawehe and Maryann Delos-Santos. He also participated in track and TV production in high school. Delos-Santos currently has a 3.18 G.P.A., his Montana Western major is undecided.
Teaqaifasa Junior Metaafa is a 5'10" 205 lb running back from Laie Hawaii. He will graduate from Kabuku High School in 2008. Metaafa had 1144 career rushing yards and eight rushing passes. He earned All-State and All-Conference honors.
"Junior is diffidently a complete back, he is able to run , catch, and block very well. Scout and rivals rated him in the top 250 running backs across the nation for 2007. We are expecting big things from Junior," said coach Ferris.
Joseph Polani Ruane is a 5'8", 200 lb defensive lineman from Wahiawa, Hawaii. He will graduate this spring from Leilehua High School. Ruane has 142 career tackles and 37 interceptions, and played on the 2007 Leilehua High School State Champion football team.
"Without a doubt, Joseph is a go-getter. Joseph plays the game as it should be played, all out, all the time. He will be a fine addition to UMW," said coach Ferris.
Ruane is the son of Jason Ruane and older brother to Jacob Ruane. He has a 3.4 G.P.A., is on the honor role and plans to be a Liberal Arts major. Joseph also enjoyed track in high school.
Dylan Mclellan-Puaa is a 6'1" 200 lb lineman from Kihei, Hawaii. He will graduate from Balduoin High School this spring. Mclellan-Puaa had five tackles and one quarter back sack his senior year. He also earned All-State honors.
"Dylan is a hard worker and an overachiever. He has also been well coached in an offensive system similar to UMW's. We are excited about Dylan joining our team," said coach Ferris.
Mclellan-Puaa is the son of Jeanene and Brendan Sebstad. He participated in basketball, track, and R.O.T.C. while in high school. Mclellan-Puaa plans to major in education while at Montana Western.
Daniel Kinkini is a 6'3" 310lb offensive lineman from Laie, Hawaii. He will graduate from Kahuku High School this spring. Kinkini earned conference and All-State honors and played in the 2007 HUB Goodwill All Star Game.
"We are very excited to have Daniel join UMW. We feel Daniel has Div. 1 ability and we look forward to him competing right away in 2008. Daniel comes from a long line of great offensive-lineman at Kahuku," said coach Ferris.
Kinkini is the son of Sam and Thomasean Kinkini and has two sisters and one brother in his family. He also participated in track and wrestling in high school. Kinkini has a 2.5 G.P.A and his UMW major is currently undecided.
