
Helena-MT. Carroll College head volleyball coach Maureen Boyle announced the signing of Kayla Hughes a transfer from Division I Fairfield University.
Hughes is a 6'2 Middle Blocker with three years of eligibility remaining for the Saints. Kayla originally hails from Portland, Oregon where she attended Jesuit High School. Throughout her four year high school campaign, Jesuit had a regular season record of 56-0 (not counting state tournaments). The team took fourth at state two times, earned state runners up once, and won the state championship one time as well during Hughes four years.
"Kayla comes to Carroll with playing experience that will allow her to make a difference in our league," said Boyle. "Kayla's size will make an immediate impact in our line-up."
Hughes a three year starter at Jesuit earned several honors during her high school career including being named team captain twice as well as earning All-State honorable mention honors during her junior and senior years.
"I choose Carroll College because I wanted a school that not only has a great volleyball team and coaching staff, but also a place where I will be challenged academically and spiritually," said Hughes. "After meeting with the coaches, the girls on the team, as well as the professors and administrators, I was able to see the strong community at Carroll. It is filled with people who are willing to help me to succeed in all aspects of my life, and help me grow as an individual," Hughes added.
Kayla will enter Carroll with a 3.6 gpa and plans on majoring in health. Kayla is the daughter of Christine and Michael Hughes and has one sister (Alyssa) and one brother (Jacob).
"Kayla has a genuine passion for volleyball and her demeanor on the court will benefit our game plan," added Boyle.
