WHITEFISH, Mont., Aug. 1, 2017 — 2016 regular season conference champion Montana Tech is the preseason favorite to win the 2017 Frontier Conference football championship in a poll of the league's coaches.

Montana Tech received five first place votes. Southern Oregon received three first place votes. NAIA playoff semifinalist Eastern Oregon is picked to finish second. Carroll College and Southern Oregon are next in a tie for third. Montana Western is next followed by College of Idaho and Rocky Mountain in a tie for sixth and then MSU-Northern.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. First place was worth seven points, second place worth six points, third place worth five points, fourth place worth four points, fifth place worth three points, sixth place worth two points and seventh place worth one point.
