Helena-MT. Carroll College head football coach Mike Van Diest has announced the signing of three Montana high school prep athletes have signed with the Fighting Saints. Sean Donahue of Helena High, Nick Retz from Helena Capital, and Trevor Simser of Milat High School."I am very excited about the signings of these three student athletes," said Van Diest. "It is great to be able to keep Sean and Nick home here at Carroll College. They are outstanding athletes with great speed and passion for the game of football. I love their intensity and competitive nature."
1) Sean Donahue- 5'10" 170 DB/Punt Returner-Helena High School. Sean was a 2nd Team All-State DB in 2007. He was named 1st Team All-State in 2008 as a safety, he was named 1st team All-Conference 2008 as a safety and 2nd Team All-Conference punt returner. Sean has been Academic All-State the past two years and is a member of the National Honor Society. He has been on the school's honor roll all four years. Sean has been selected to play in the East/West Shrine Game and Mon/Dak All-Star Game this summer. Sean has also lettered in basketball and track.
2) Nick Retz- 5'8" 182 RB-Helena Capital High School. Nick is a three year letterman in football at Capital High School where they have won three consecutive State "AA" Championships. He was named 1st Team All-Conference as a RB in 2007 and in 2008. In the past year Nick was named 1st Team All-State RB. He has been selected to play in the East/West Shrine Game and the Mon/Dak All-Star Game. He is a three year letterman in track and field and was named All-State in 2008. Nick is one of the top sprinters in the state. Nick is also an outstanding baseball player. He was named the Helena Senators Baseball MVP for the past season and led the team with a .403 batting average.
3) Trevor Simser- 6'2" 270 OT/DT Malta High School. Trevor has been a 1st Team All-State selection in 2007 and 2008. He was selected to play in the State Class B All-Star Game and East/West Shrine Game this summer. He was a two year letterman for the Mustangs in basketball and will have participated in Track all four years of high school.
"Trevor was an outstanding player on both sides of the football at Malta High School," said Van Diest. "He is a gifted athlete with tremendous flexibility and quickness. He can play a number of positions and will be an outstanding lineman for the Saints."
This marks the first signing of the recruiting season for the defending Frontier Conference champions.
