Helena, Mont.-Carroll College head soccer coach David Thorvilson has announced the signing of Erin Volz to an NAIA/Frontier Conference Letter of Intent.
Volz, a product of Portland area soccer, is a member of the FC Portland-Crimson club team and played her HS ball at Central Catholic High School. Erin will be the 5th player to come from Central Catholic in recent years. She was a 1st Team Mt. Hood All-Conference selection in 2007 and 2008, Goalkeeper of the Conference in 2008 as well as All-State Honorable Mention, 2nd Team All-State 2007, and was voted Qwest Player of the game in the 2007 Oregon State Championship Game for 6A schools were Central Catholic finished runner-ups. Erin's club team has seen its success and has advanced to the State semi-finals each of the last two years and hopes to exceed that mark this spring. Erin is a National Honors Society member and on the Honor Roll at her high school. She plans to major in Engineering while at Carroll College.
"I am thrilled to sign a player of Erin caliber. She comes from a very strong soccer background and has had personal training with her clubs goal keeper coach. She is technically very strong and should be able to compete with our current keepers as a freshman and I anticipate a bright future for her as a Saint," said Thorvilson.
The Saints only graduated 3 seniors off of last year's squad and will look to bring back 24 retuning players into preseason this August. This signing marks the second of the spring and coach Thorvilson plans to only bring in 1-2 more players for the 2009 team.
